Did you know there are 2.5 million garage doors sold every year in the USA?
If you’re a handy person and you’ve got some help, you might want to try installing your own door instead of consulting a garage door company. The job is estimated to take about 8 to 12 hours and comes with a bit of danger.
Today we’re going to give you an overview of how to conduct a garage door installation in Katy, TX.
How to Install a Garage Door
Starting with the bottom panel, you’ll permanently attach the weather stripping with a bracket at the bottom corners. Then install the hinges on the top of the panel.
Next add the hinges and brackets on one side, then add the rollers. Center the panel in the opening, and wrap the track around the rollers with a little space between the track and the door. Screw the track into the door jamb.
Attach the hinges and roller to the top of the second panel. Then with the help of an assistant, stack the door on top of the first panel. You’ll have to swing the door into the track you’ve installed to get the rollers in place. Screw the hinges from the first panel into the second panel.
Having already attached the hinges to the top of the third panel, stack it on the second panel. Once it is in place, add the rollers and wrap that track around the rollers. Screw hinges from the second panel to the third panel.
Align the horizontal track with the vertical track, fasten them together and secure it to the ceiling. Make sure it is straight and the left and right tracks are parallel.
Add the last panel and have your assistant hold it up as you screw the hinges and add the last bracket. Lower the bracket with a roller installed until there’s some pressure on the roller and back it off a touch before installing.
Installing the Torsion Spring
Make sure you have at least 12” of clearance above the door opening for a torsion spring system.
You’ll need two certified winding bars, wrenches for the set screws, at least three locking pliers, and the right match of springs for your door. Installing torsion springs is an extremely technical process which if not done properly could permanently maim or kill you if you do it wrong or overtighten and break the spring.
This part should really be done by a professional or risk garage door repair, we can’t stress enough.
