In a world increasingly focused on sustainability, every industry has a role to play in reducing its environmental footprint. At Ohana Garage Doors, we take pride in not only providing top-notch garage door services but also in our commitment to environmental responsibility. One of the ways we contribute to a greener future is through our recycling program for old garage doors and motors. What makes our initiative even more special is the involvement of a remarkable individual—Junkin’ George, an 84-year-old Navy veteran who is passionate about recycling to stay busy and fit.
When we remove old garage doors and motors to replace them with one of our high-quality steel garage doors or one of our professional-line garage door openers, we want to ensure that they are disposed of responsibly. Instead of contributing to landfills, we choose a more sustainable path. Our dedicated team carefully disassembles and separates materials to maximize recycling potential. Metal parts are sorted and sent to recycling facilities, while other components are processed in an environmentally friendly manner.
That’s where Junkin’ George comes in. At 84 years old, he is a testament to the power of passion and purpose. A Navy veteran, George found a new mission in life after retirement—to stay active and contribute to the community. When we learned about his enthusiasm for recycling, we saw an opportunity to collaborate and make a positive impact on the environment.
A few times a month, George visits our shop to collect the discarded doors and openers to be recycled. His energy and dedication are truly inspiring, as he loads up his truck and trailer with the salvaged metal from old garage doors and motors. Not only does he keep these materials out of landfills, but he also ensures that they are repurposed into new products, reducing the demand for raw materials and energy.
George’s commitment to recycling is driven by a desire to stay fit and make a difference in the community. Having served in the Navy, he understands the importance of discipline and responsibility. Recycling has become his personal mission, allowing him to contribute to a sustainable future while staying physically active.
In addition to the environmental benefits, George’s involvement has created a sense of community around our recycling program. Customers appreciate knowing that their old garage doors and motors are being responsibly handled, and George’s story adds a human touch to our commitment to sustainability.
