2. Evaluate side clearance by measuring the space from the doorway to the wall. It must be at least 3 ¾”. More is better!
3. Evaluate the headroom by measuring from the header to the ceiling – or first obstruction. You will need at minimum 15” headroom if you plan to install a garage door opener.
4. Evaluate the clearance from the garage door opening back into the garage. Measure from the garage door back the distance of the door plus 18”. If you intend to install an opener, add 50”.
